I think you were doing the right thing by not giving nicknames for private parts. It's never too late to correct this mistake.

An illustrated children's book about bodies, sexuality and reproduction is called "It's NOT The Stork!" which I highly recommend. It has all the terminology, including vulva and clitoris, ovaries and fallopian tubes and much more! It discusses the functions in simple language with comic strips, as well :)
